We are proud to be able to say that Harwich International Shanty Festival is most definitely a Community Festival and not a commercial venture, with Community values at its heart. We started out with a Festival to celebrate Harwich Town heritage and to involve and support the local community. As the Festival has grown from its small beginnings so our Community has just become larger and we are keen to preserve that sense of Community amongst all who attend or benefit from the Festival, in whatever capacity.

From a financial point of view this has its drawbacks; a non-profit making organisation run entirely by volunteers can sometimes find itself in a precarious position and we are always grateful for all the support we do receive, both financial and in kind.

We already have a small number of committed sponsors, supporters and Friends and their help ensures that the Festival continues to run relatively smoothly, but as costs rise year on year we are always on the look-out for more.

It is a disappointing fact that those of us who rely on grants, fundraising and sponsorship are finding it ever more difficult to attract funding to put on an event such as ours.
