There is little to report in our Shanty Newsletter this month, other than the decision we have regretfully made that we will be unable to hold a Shanty Festival at all this October. We had hoped that maybe some chink of light in the Coronavirus pandemic would enable us to run a small version of our usual event, but, despite the slight relaxation of Government guidelines there are still too many restrictions which make it impossible for us to run this year. So it is with a heavy heart that we are now making it official – Harwich International Shanty Festival is cancelled for 2020.
We have further decided that we will not be running an online version of events as some other Festivals have done. There are many reasons for this, but a major consideration is that our Festival is all about Live Music and the accompanying atmosphere. We are of course still very hopeful that 2021 will see the world return to a more normal state and that our Festival and many others will be able to return with renewed vigour.
In the absence of any more positive news at this stage we will keep this August Newsletter brief and just remind you all that copies of the excellent HISF compilation CD “In Dry Dock” are now available from the Visitor Centre on the Ha’Penny Pier and also by post via our website: https://harwichshantyfestival.co.uk/ But hurry, stocks are already running low as it proves to be one of our most popular CDs.
Keep safe everyone and keep an eye on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts for any general shanty updates.
