July Shanty Newsletter

Time & Tide Bell

We are thrilled and honoured that the town of Harwich is one of the towns chosen to have a Time and Tide Ball installed. And even more thrilled that the Harwich International Shanty Festival has been chosen for the inauguration ceremony. This will take place on Saturday 8th October at 11:30 and feature some shanties from Harwich Shanty Crew, including a newly written Shanty especially for this occasion. Visit https://timeandtidebell.org/ for details about these very special bells and come along to hear the first chimes over the Shanty Festival weekend.

Motorhome and Camper van Site

We are pleased to announce that we again have permission to use Harwich Green as a site for self contained caravans/campervans/motorhomes. Please do note that there are no facilities on site which is why your unit has to be self contained and tents are not allowed. Places can now be booked via our website: https://harwichshantyfestival.co.uk/caravan-campervan-2022/ . There are a limited number of spaces available so book early to be sure of a place.

Shanty Sundays on the Pier

Sunday 10th July sees the third of this year’s Shanty Sundays with popular local group the Hoolies singing from around midday. The weather forecast is good and the Ha’Penny Pier on a summer Sunday, with a panorama of ships and musical entertainment is a lovely place to be, so do come and listen if you are in the area!

Merchandise

A reminder that we have a range of shanty merchandise for sale, available from the Ha’Penny Pier Visitor Centre or via our website. The 2022 T.Shirts feature a design of Harwich landmarks on the front with a list of 2022 Artists on the back and are the ideal souvenir of our forthcoming Festival. See https://harwichshantyfestival.co.uk/merchandise/ for more details.
