HISF May Newsletter 2024

Hi {name}

Fundraising

One of our major annual fundraisers is coming up very shortly. The Cake’n’Shanty Event takes place in Outpart Eastward opposite the New Bell Inn in Historic Harwich on Sunday 26th May. Loads of lovely cake to buy and eat, alongside the sound of shanties and other musical entertainment. The day starts at 11.00 and carries on until around 16.00 – or until we run out of cake! Please do come along and support us and we can always do with some more help on the day and more cake bakers so if you can help in even a small way please do get in touch.

And on June 12th the monthly quiz at the New Bell is in aid of the Shanty Festival so again please come along and support. The quizzes at the New Bell are always fun and inclusive so even if you don’t have a full team come along and join us.

Volunteers

We had a very welcome response to our appeal for more help in last months newsletter, so thanks to those who responded. But we are still a very small team running a very big festival so if you think you can offer just a bit of your time to help in any way please do email us and we will add you to our list.

2024 Artists

Booking and Programming for 2024 is almost complete and we hope to be able to announce our booked artists very soon. Keep an eye on all Social Media for announcements and our website will also be updated soon. If you are a booked artist and have not already sent in a photo and biography we need this urgently or your photo will not appear!

Obituary

And finally some more sad news. Linda Irene Mitchell, more affectionately known as ‘Little Lin’, was a member of ‘The Golden Rivets’ for over 20 years and played at the Harwich Shanty Festival from the very first event up until last year. Living locally to the event and ‘playing for fun’, she enjoyed time with the group rehearsing, practising and performing with her accordion and whistle – keeping the group in time but always with a smile, cheeky grin and a joke. She will be fondly remembered not only for her musical skills and love of music but for her funny little quips and what we called her ‘Linderisms’. She is and will be sadly missed.

“In your own time Linda”.

In Loving memory June 1949 – March 2024
